ENGAGE 2021: 20th Annual Graduate Student Conference
Call for Abstracts
We invite all graduate and upper year undergraduate students from fields of the social and applied human sciences to participate in ENGAGE, the 20th Annual Graduate Student Conference at the University of Guelph on April 24, 2021.
This event celebrates the diversity and vitality of student research by encouraging students from various social science backgrounds to come together and ENGAGE with peers over critical issues and cultural debates.
Our theme for this year's conference is New Potential: Reimagining Social Change in a Dynamic Era. If you are working to understand how we engage in the social world and imagine social justice, we would love to hear from you!
Deadline for Abstract Submissions: Friday, March 26, 2021.
In fulfilling our mission to develop a supportive and inclusive environment for students to conduct and present their research, the ENGAGE conference accepts submissions in any area that are broadly inspired by or related to the conference theme.
Moreover, both paper and poster proposals are welcome!
The following options are available for presenting your work:
- Paper presentation (15 minute presentation)
- Poster presentation (asynchoronous virtual poster)
- Poster and 5 minute presentation
- Workshop discussing research obstacles during the pandemic (5 minute presentation + discussion)
Abstracts for submission must be between 100-200 words in length. Abstract Submissions will not be accepted after Friday, March 26, 2021. Please fill out the online form to submit your abstract, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Five monetary awards will be presented at the ENGAGE conference this year:
- ENGAGE Original Outstanding Research Award ($100)
- ENGAGE Best Community Engaged Research Award ($100)
- ENGAGE Best Graduate Research Presentation Award ($100)
- ENGAGE Best Undergraduate Research Presentation Award ($100)
- ENGAGE Best Poster Presentation Award ($100)
Sessions for paper presentations and posters with presentations, as well as the workshop for addressing research difficulties during the pandemic will be scheduled over Zoom throughout the day.
Asynchronous poster presentations will be presented through Gather or a similar platform. Information regarding the theme and time of each session, as well as the length of each presentation and technical information will be provided closer to the date of the conference.
Cost and Accommodation
There is no fee to participate in this conference. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer funding for participants' costs.
