Course Description:
The professional seminar course introduces students to graduate studies in Sociology and Anthropology with the goal of helping you understand how to navigate and thrive as a graduate student and beyond in the professional worlds of sociology and anthropology. The course includes information on the program; skills and strategies for succeeding in graduate school; information on obtaining funding, applying for further studies, finding employment; and so on. In short, sessions and other learning opportunities are geared to the skills and knowledge required to successfully complete your graduate program and build towards your future career aspirations. All graduate students in the Public Issues Anthropology (PIA) and Sociology MA programs and the Sociology PhD program are required to take this course. Students are expected to attend all sessions and participate regularly. In addition, students are expected to attend and reflect upon a set of lectures, talks, and events that will occur outside of class time.

Evaluation:
The specific evaluation components and weighting of assignments for this course will be discussed during the first class meeting, and may include a combination of participation and engagement in class and in scholarly and professional activities outside of class, assessments of written and oral communication, or other assignments. Note that this course is grades Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory.
